Early Watercraft Association Congress 1 – Vile do Conde, Portugal 2023
Early Watercraft Association’s first congress was hosted by the municipality of Vile do Conde, Portugal from 26th to 28th October 2023.
Papers were presented in a blended manner, with in-person presenters and those presented online and we’re live streamed. The audience was also in a blended in-person and online format. Out hosts the municipality of Vile do Conde made a significant contribution to the event by providing facilities, such as their municipality theatre, technical resources, refreshments. All of this was capped off with a Maritime Heritage tour of the region on 29th October.
The topics discussed and presented covered all facets of early watercraft, with dugout boats / logboats, being the most enduring ones in the archaeological record being heavily featured. However, it was not all about boats, policy papers were presented in the management of this unique heritage.
The Questions & Answers Sessions saw a very thorough engagement on all aspects of watercraft, with global participation.
